How to get your terrace ready for the sunny season?
The winter months are behind us and the spring sun is showing its pretty face. Your garden wakes up from hibernation and it is time to get your terrace ready for months of enjoyment. In autumn and winter, your terrace probably has collected leaves, dirt, moss or algae. Luckily, Cedral Terrace planks are easy to clean and require no recoating. We’ll explain to you how you can get your terrace as new again in a few simple steps.
The advantages of fibre-cement boards
Cedral Terrace boards are made of fibre cement. This composite material is highly-durable thanks to its smart mix of cement and natural fibres. And thanks to its special brushed finish, the boards have a pleasant feel when you walk on them barefoot.
The fibre-cement decking planks are manufactured using inorganic pigments that will see a beautiful softer hue when aging. But there is no need whatsoever to treat your terrace. Forget about staining or repainting. Fibre cement, due to its composition, is naturally resistant to mould, rot and fire. All you need to do is to give it a wipe every once so often.
Get ready for spring cleaning your terrace
No matter how resistant your terrace, even those made with Cedral Terrace, your decking will collect some dirt and stains over winter. Impurities fall down with the rain or are carried by the wind. So when the weather turns warmer again and the outdoors beckons, it is time to get your terrace ready for spring and summer.
The first thing you do is to clear your terrace. Remove all garden furniture, decoration and plants so that you have easy access to your terrace. By doing this, you also make sure no dirt accumulates around or under objects on your terrace. If you don’t have free space to remove all your furniture or plants from the terrace, you can clean your terrace in two parts, moving your objects to one side while you clean the other side.
Easy cleaning with water and soap
First brush the terrace with a broom to get rid of any dirt or dust, leaves or pieces of moss or similar organic growths.
Next water the surface sufficiently and loosen dirt with a soft brush. Make sure to keep your terrace damp, so that the loosened dirt does not settle again.
Finally rinse the patio surface completely with clear water in the direction of the slope.
And what about high-pressure cleaning?
Take caution if you plan to use a high-pressure cleaner as the strong jet could damage the planks if not used with care. However, if you are an experienced user of such high-pressure devices, you can use power washing (at your own risk) but only with a wide-fan nozzle, a pressure of less than 80 bar and keeping a distance of more than 20 cm.
